Associate Professor Efstathia IOANNOU

Dr. Efstathia Ioannou received her B.Sc. degree from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens in 2003 and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Pharmacy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2005 and 2009, respectively. She carried out postdoctoral research on the chemistry of marine actinobacteria with Prof. William Fenical at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD, CA, USA), before returning to Greece in 2010 to take up a lectureship at the Department of Pharmacy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she is currently an Associate Professor. Her research interests focus on the isolation, structure elucidation and biological activity evaluation of natural products mainly from marine macro- and microorganisms. She has significant teaching and educational experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while her research output includes 80 research articles and 7 review /overview articles published in peer-reviewed journals, 4 chapters in books of international publishing houses and more than 180 oral or poster presentations at international and national conferences. She has served as a member of the organizing committee for several international conferences, including acting as Chairman for the 10th European Conference on Marine Natural Products in 2017. She has served as Guest Editor for a number of special issues and is a recurring reviewer of manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals. In the last 5 years, her research activities have attracted significant funding from both the public and the private sector. Currently she is serving as the Meetings' Secretary of the Phytochemical Society of Europe and a member of the Steering Committee of the Center of Excellence of NKUA “Blue Growth – Shipping – Marine Environment – Island Policy”.
